Від імені Ради Директорів ми раді повідомити, що Федеральна Kредитна Cпілка СУМА показала хороші результати протягом ще одного складного року. Перш за все, неспровоковане російське вторгнення в Україну у лютому 2022 року було головним питанням для наших членів та для всього цивілізованого світу. Кредитівка СУМА відіграє важливу роль у забезпеченні найкращих засобів для окремих осіб та організацій для переказу коштів сім’ям та гуманітарним організаціям, які зараз перебувають в Україні. У рамках нашого внеску СУМА відмовилася від збору оплати за міжнародні електронні перекази, щоб забезпечити максимальну економію для тих, хто постраждав від цієї несправедливої війни. Крім того, ми діяли як центральний пункт у нашій спільноті для збору грошових пожертв для кількох українських організацій, включаючи УККА та Revived Soldiers Ukraine, також оприлюднюючи їхні гуманітарні кампанії щодо допомоги Україні разом з іншими організаціями на наших соціальних мережах.
Ми також пишаємося тим, що виступаємо в якості координаційного центру різних регіональних і національних інформаційних організацій для збору інформації про ці зусилля.

JOINT REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT and CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are pleased to report that the SUMA Federal Credit Union had a solid performance in yet another challenging year.  First and foremost, the unprovoked russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 was top-of-mind for our members and indeed for the whole civilized world.  SUMA has played a critical role in providing the best means for individuals and organizations to wire funds to families and humanitarian entities currently in Ukraine.  As part of our contribution, SUMA has waived wiring fees in order to provide a maximum benefit for those affected by this unjust war. In addition, we acted as the central location within our community to collect monetary donations for several of the Ukrainian organizations, including UCCA and Revived Soldiers Ukraine, also publicizing their humanitarian campaigns to help Ukraine, along with other organizations, on our social media platforms.

We were also proud to act as the focal point of various regional and national news organizations to gather information on those efforts.

The United States economic environment is a key determinant of every financial institution. In early 2020, after several years of solid growth, the economic expansion that began in mid-2009 came to an end, as the COVID-19 pandemic and efforts to slow the spread of the virus led to a dramatic pullback in spending.  The near-term outlook for the United States economy is favorable. A consensus of forecasters projects continued economic and job growth and declining unemployment over the next two years as the economy continues to heal from the effects of the pandemic and increased interest rates due to increased inflation. In all, you can feel confident that SUMA FCU continues to serve as the safe harbor where you can protect your financial well-being through whatever the economic climate.

For the year ending 2022, SUMA FCU’s assets increased by 2.7% to $424 million and loans increased by $32 million for an impressive 14.5% rate of growth. We are pleased to report that membership has also increased by 659 new members, double our historical level.  We project that we will increase credit union growth even further as we continue to add Ukrainian Catholic parishes to SUMA’s field-of-membership – St. Michael the Archangel in Yonkers and Sts. Peter & Paul in Spring Valley are the first to be approved by the NCUA. 

Equally rewarding was our ability to donate a record $616,000 to various charitable causes in our communities and others supporting Ukraine. We also established an independent not-for-profit foundation, to be funded with SUMA FCU income and other sources, to ensure the viability of our community organizations and Ukrainian causes for years to come.

The Board of Directors is continuously implementing best practices and seeking out new opportunities to best serve our members, recognizing that we cannot remain on the sidelines in terms of technological development and product offerings.  Tenacious and well-financed competition from commercial banks, FinTech’s and emerging bank-like entities remains high.  Our advantage, however, is that, unlike these other financial companies, we report to you and not to stockholders and therefore treat you like a valued partner in order to always have your best financial interests in mind.

As the leader in banking technology among Ukrainian-Amercian credit unions, SUMA FCU continues to keep pace with innovation.  Over the past year, this included:

• Implementation of AutoBooks, an application for businesses and organizations to digitally manage their accounting and electronically process invoices and payments.
• Updating our phone systems that enable enhanced in-person communication with our member service representatives. This digital telephone system ties in all branches and makes SUMA representatives available even during off hours at our branches.  Additionally, we have also upgraded communication capabilities with text/SMS and in the past year we have had over 20,000 conversations using text/SMS.
• Supporting loan applications near or far – our members can now apply for loans and mortgages on-line.
• SUMA FCU continues to maintain and build on our best-in-class cybersecurity posture. Our virtual information security officer and all the various leading-edge systems we have implemented continue to protect SUMA and its members. Furthermore, the credit union’s core data has been transferred to a highly secure cloud service located in an impregnable underground site, providing complete disaster recovery redundancy and removing the possibility of a loss of connectivity for our members in the event of an unanticipated emergency.
• Award-winning digital banking platforms continue to be upgraded with the newest features to enhance member experience.

This year we also celebrate two important milestones in our credit union’s history, namely the 25^th anniversary of the SUMA FCU branch in Stamford, Connecticut and the 20^th anniversary of our main offices at 125 Corporate Boulevard in Yonkers, New York - two of the best investments in the 59-year history of our institution.

Finally, we thank the entire staff of SUMA FCU for their hard work and dedication in maintaining the safest and most reliable institution for our community, and you, our dear members, for your continued trust in SUMA to securely manage all of your financial needs.

• New digital phone system tying together all our branches to our headquarters. Now members can talk to a representative no matter which branch they call or whether the branch is open that day or at that hour.
• Upgraded our systems allowing our main office number (914.220.4900) to accept calls AND text/SMS messages
• Completed implementation of our On-line Loan Applications
• Upgraded our Credit AND Debit Cards Rewards Program
  
• Expanded Autobooks - Easy Invoicing and Payments for Small- and Micro-Businesses
  
• Added My Credit Score widget in our digital banking app providing members their credit scores, complete credit reports with alerts, and assistance with understanding and improving their credit scores
• Added Plinqit widget in our digital banking app providing automated savings goals; rewards for financial literacy and for referring a friend to SUMA FCU
• Updated our Direct Deposit Switching widget in our digital banking app - now making the switch to SUMA FC for our members seamless
• Moved our core system to a highly secure cloud service located in an impregnable underground site under a mountain, providing complete disaster recovery redundancy and removing the possibility of a loss of connectivity for our members if there were an issue at HQ
• In its first full year of operation, the backup generator at HQ protected our building and all systems for over 10 days of continuous blackouts that ambushed our area and the businesses in it in 2022.

• Continued to send wires to Ukraine fee-free.
  

SUMA Federal Credit Union Holds 59^th Annual Meeting – April 1, 2023 (English)

SUMA Federal Credit Union held its 59^th annual meeting on Saturday, April 1^st, 2023 at the Ukrainian Youth Center, 301 Palisade Avenue in Yonkers, New York.  Roman G. Kozicky, President and CEO of the credit union, called the meeting to order at 10:20am and welcomed all members and guests present.  He then asked all assembled to stand, in a moment of silence, to honor all our members lost in 2022 as well as the fallen heroes who were bravely protecting the borders of Ukraine against the unprovoked Russian invasion. The Very Rev. Kiril Angelov, Chancellor of the Ukrainian Catholic Diocese of Stamford and Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers, offered an invocation and thanked the credit union for its financial support of the church as well as the Eparchy throughout the challenging year of 2022. 

Andrew Horbachevsky, Chairman of the SUMA FCU Board of Directors, provided a summary of the year’s activities and accomplishments.  In his comments, the Chairman underscored his appreciation to the management and staff of the credit union who effectively and safely met our membership’s financial needs during the course of the COVID pandemic and then the subsequent economic turmoil.  Despite the challenges of 2022, SUMA FCU was able to increase its assets by 2.7% to $424 million while achieving a net income of $1.3 million.  Mr. Horbachevsky thanked all involved in all the new innovations implemented on the digital and I.T. side of the business as well as successfully implementing the expansion of SUMA FCU’s field of membership, which as of 2022, now includes parishioners of Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Spring Valley, NY.

Treasurer and COO, Ihor Makarenko, provided further 2022 financial details in his report to the membership which can be found on the SUMA FCU website - www.sumafcu.org. Ihor Shevchuk, representing the Credit Committee, reported 246 loans were approved for a total of $63 million.

Greetings were acknowledged from His Grace, the Most Reverend Bishop Paul Patrick Chomnycky O.S.B.M.; Michael Sawkiw, Director of the Ukrainian National Informational Service (U.N.I.S.) in Washington, DC; and Michael Kapitula, President of the Ukrainian Youth Association (C.Y.M) in Yonkers, NY. In-person greetings were presented by Tymish Hankewicz (the Plast Ukrainian Scout Organization in Yonkers), Svitlana Khmurokovska (the School of Ukrainian Studies in Yonkers and the Barvinok Children’s Cultural and Daycare Center), Valentyn Labunsky (Publisher & Editor-in-Chief of Nova Gazeta), and Walter Kozicky (the Yonkers branch of the Organization for Defense of Four Freedoms for Ukraine - O.D.F.F.U.).

The following directors were ending their terms this year: Andrew Horbachevsky, Andrij Burchak, and Jaroslaw Kiciuk.  Similarly, members of the credit committee ending their terms were: Ihor Shevchuk, and Mark Pawliczko.  The nominating committee, headed by Orest Kozicky, offered a proposition to re-elect the named individuals to an additional term and the members present unanimously voted in favor of the slate as presented.

In closing, President/CEO Roman Kozicky expressed his gratitude to the staff of SUMA FCU for their professionalism in service to the credit union’s membership.  He also thanked SUMA FCU’s members for their continued trust and confidence in the credit union as a financial partner.  He also specifically recognized and thanked the graduating class and the teachers of the Yonkers School of Ukrainian Studies for their attendance at this annual meeting as part of their school curriculum. Lastly, he wished for a quick and successful end to the war in Ukraine and the safe return home of all the defenders as well as all the Ukrainian refugees.  The Very Rev. Kiril Angelov closed the annual meeting with a benediction and a prayer for Ukraine followed by everyone in attendance singing the Ukrainian national anthem.

Федеральна Кредитна спілка СУМА Проводить 59-е Щорічне Засідання – 1 квітня 2023 року (Ukrainian)

Федеральна кредитна спілка СУМА провела 59-річну зустріч у суботу, 1 квітня 2023 року в Українському молодіжному центрі Дім СУМ, 301 Palisade Avenue в Йонкерсі, Нью-Йорк. Роман Козіцький, президент та генеральний директор кредитної спілки, відкрив засідання о 10:20 і привітав усіх присутніх членів та гостей. Після, він попросив усіх присутніх встати, щоб вшанувати хвилиною мовчання всіх наших членів, загиблих у 2022 році, а також полеглих героїв, які мужньо захищали кордони України від неспровоковане російське вторгнення. Преосвященний Кирило Ангелов, канцлер Української католицької єпархії Стемфорд і пастор Української католицької церкви св. Михаїла Архангела в Йонкерсі, провів коротку молитву та подякував кредитній спілці за фінансову підтримку Церкви, а також єпархії в такий складний рік.

Голова ради директорів Кредитівки СУМА, Андрій Горбачевський підвів підсумок діяльності та досягнень року. У своєму коментарі, Голова підкреслив свою вдячність керівництву та персоналу кредитної спілки, які ефективно та безпечно підтримували роботу всіх наших відділень щоб задовольнити фінансові потреби нашого членства під час пандемії COVID 19, а потім подальших економічних потрясінь. Незважаючи на виклики 2022 року, Кредитівка змогла збільшити свої активи на 2,7% до 424 мільйонів доларів, досягнувши чистого доходу в 1,3 мільйона доларів. Пан Горбачевський подякував усім, хто брав участь у всіх нових інноваціях, реалізованих у цифрових та І.Т. сторону бізнесу, а також подякував усім, хто причетний до успішної реалізації розширення поля членства СУМА FCU, до якого з 2022 року входять парафіяни Української Католицької Церкви Святих Петра і Павла в Спрінг Веллі, Нью-Йорк.

Скарбник і головний виконавчий директор Ігор Макаренко надав додаткові фінансові відомості за 2022 рік у своєму звіті для членів, який можна знайти на веб-сайті – www.sumafcu.org. Ігор Шевчук, представник Кредитного комітету, повідомив що було затверджено 246 позики на загальну суму 63 мільйонів доларів.

Письмові привітання були прийняті від Преосвященного Владики Павла-Патрика Хомницького O.S.B.M.; Михайла Савків, директор Української Національної Інформаційної Служби (U.N.I.S.) у Вашингтоні; та Михайла Капітули, президента Спілки Української Молоді (C.Y.M.) в Йонкерсі. З особистими привітаннями виступили: Тиміш Ганкевич (Організація українських скаутів «Пласт» в Йонкерсі), Світлана Хмуроковська (Школа українознавства в Йонкерсі та дитячий культурно-денний центр «Барвінок»), Валентин Лабунський (видавець і головний редактор «Нової газети») та Володимир Козіцький (Йонкерський осередок Організації Оборони Чотирьох Свобід України - O.О.Ч.С.С.).

Цього року завершувались повноваження таких директорів: Андрій Горбачевський, Андрій Бурчак та Ярослав Кіцюк. Так само, членами кредитного комітету які закінчили свої повноваження були: Ігор Шевчук та Марко Павлічко. Номінаційний комітет, на чолі з Орестом Козіцьким, запропонував переобрати названих осіб на додатковий термін, і присутні одноголосно проголосували за представлений список.

На завершення Президент/Генеральний директор Роман Козіцький висловив подяку співробітникам за професіоналізм у служінні членству кредитної спілки. Він також подякував членам Кредитівки СУМА за їхню довіру до кредитної спілки як фінансового партнера. Він також особливо відзначив і подякував випускникам і вчителям Йонкерської школи українознавства за їхню присутність на цих щорічних зборах у рамках їхньої шкільної програми.  Насамкінець побажав швидкого та успішного завершення війни в Україні та безпечного повернення додому всіх захисників, а також усіх українських біженців. Преосвященний отець Кирило Ангелов завершив річну зустріч благословенням та молитвою за Україну, а потім усі присутні заспівали гімн України.
